2yrs of Casino Drives: Online gambling now uncontrolled

All it started was a buzz. The raids of well-known sporting clubs revealed that gambling and illegal casino businesses were being run by ruling party leaders. The month-long drive was largely focused on gambling at sporting clubs, but online gambling continues to be a problem, evading the eye of law enforcement. The much-talked-about crackdown on gambling and extortion began with raids at five sports clubs. Although government officials repeatedly suggested that the drive would continue it was stopped by a series raids that saw the arrest of more than 250 people. This included several leaders from affiliated bodies of the ruling Awami League. Since November 1, 2011, there have not been any such drives. Yesterday, Commander Khandaker al Moin, the director of the legal and media wings of Rab, spoke to The Daily Star and said that the club-based gambling and casino have been stopped.
